Laser engraving: our lasers and materials
In our workshop in Höchst we work with three xTool machines and five laser sources: CO₂, infrared, MOPA fibre, diode and UV. Each suits different materials – so for every piece we choose the technique that gives the cleanest and most durable result.
Our machines
| Machine | Laser | Power |
|---|---|---|
| xTool P3 | CO₂ (10.6 µm) | 80 W |
| xTool P3 | IR module (1064 nm) | 5 W |
| xTool F2 Ultra | MOPA fibre (1064 nm) | 60 W |
| xTool F2 Ultra | Diode (455 nm) | 40 W |
| xTool F2 Ultra UV | UV (355 nm) | 5 W |
CO₂ laser – for wood, glass, leather, slate and acrylic
Our CO₂ laser in the xTool P3 has 80 W and a work area of around 90 × 45 cm. It engraves evenly into non-metallic materials and cuts wood and acrylic – this is how our walnut wooden earrings are made, for example. Large pieces such as signs and cutting boards fit too.
- Wood and bamboo: cutting boards, bottle openers, signs, jewellery
- Glass: drinking glasses and carafes, engraved with a frosted finish
- Leather and cork
- Slate: coasters and signs
- Acrylic: signs and displays, engraved and cut
- Paper and cardboard
MOPA fibre laser and IR module – for metal
For metal we work with the MOPA fibre laser in the xTool F2 Ultra (60 W, 1064 nm). It marks and engraves metal permanently and precisely – from fine logos, names and QR codes to deeper engravings. In addition, the IR module on the P3 (5 W, 1064 nm) handles metal marking.
- Stainless steel: travel mugs, pens, key rings, nameplates
- Aluminium, including anodised
- Brass
- Titanium
Diode laser – for fine work on wood and leather
The F2 Ultra also has a blue diode laser (40 W, 455 nm). It engraves quickly and finely on small pieces – such as wooden pens, tags or leather patches.
- Wood and bamboo: small parts with fine detail
- Leather
- Paper and cardboard
UV laser – for glass, ceramics and plastic
The xTool F2 Ultra UV works with short-wave light (5 W, 355 nm) and very little heat – known as cold processing. That makes it suitable for fine lettering and logos on sensitive surfaces, without deforming the material.
- Glass and crystal glass: very fine lettering and logos
- Ceramics
- Many plastics and silicone
Which material with which laser?
| Material | Laser | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Wood and bamboo | CO₂ or diode | Cutting boards, bottle openers, signs, earrings |
| Glass and crystal glass | CO₂ or UV | Drinking glasses, whisky glasses, carafes |
| Stainless steel, aluminium, brass, titanium | MOPA fibre or IR | Travel mugs, pens, key rings, nameplates |
| Slate | CO₂ | Coasters, signs |
| Leather and cork | CO₂ or diode | Key rings, cases, patches |
| Acrylic | CO₂ | Signs, displays |
| Ceramics | UV | Tiles, mugs |
| Plastics and silicone | UV | Housings, promotional items |
For other materials, we are happy to tell you whether and how they can be engraved.
Single piece or series
Whether it is a single name for a gift or a series with your company logo: we engrave single pieces and small series. On request we also engrave your own products. Custom orders start from €25.
How your engraving is made
- You send us your idea, your text or your logo.
- We recommend the material and laser and send you a preview.
- After your approval we engrave it in our workshop. You collect your piece in Höchst.
Frequently asked questions
Is a laser engraving permanent?
Yes. The laser changes the surface of the material itself; no paint is applied. That is why the engraving cannot peel off.
Which file do you need for a logo?
Ideally a vector file (SVG, PDF, AI or EPS). A good PNG or JPG works too – we prepare it for engraving.
Can I have my own product engraved?
Often, yes. Send us a photo or bring it by, and we will tell you which laser suits it.
